If you are planning to renovate your bathroom as a New Year resolution, this is an exciting time and planning is the key to every successful home improvement project. If you are dealing with a small room, storage is going to be an issue, and with that in mind, here are a few ways you can integrate bathroom storage with the vanity.
Tall Tower Cabinets
You can choose these usually cube shaped, much like skyscrapers, cabinets. Have a couple of these towers – one either side of the vanity. An online search will take you to suppliers. Front side opening, with shelves and drawers, enough for all your linen and products, some towers are 2m in height and they add some balance to the room. Look for a company that offers bathroom design in Windsor and let them design a couple of tower cabinets, while they can also supply and install top brands for baths, showers, toilets and wet room furniture. Tall towers work best with a high ceiling, otherwise, the room looks crowded and everything is off balance.
Built-In Drawers
A large vanity with a couple of large drawers in the lower half would give you more than enough storage space, even for a family bathroom. A small bathroom would greatly benefit from using the space under the vanity. Take a trip to your local bathroom store and checkout the range of vanities. Indeed, a local joiner would relish the challenge of bespoke cabinets; put out some feelers on Facebook and see if there are any takers.
Above The Toilet
Build a cupboard unit directly above the toilet, with drawers and shelves, enough for towels, bathrobes and mats. Cleaning implements and products can be stored in a drawer and you could have a small mirror on the door of a narrow unit, perfect for beauty products. Eye level cupboards are perfect for small bathrooms; Google Images can find you some great examples of utilising that space above the WC.
Wall-Mounted
If you want to keep what floor space you have, think wall-mounted units. Talk to a local bathroom designer, or better still, create a diagram of your bathroom and pay the store a visit. Another idea is to source a local joiner and ask him to knock up a couple of wall-mounted storage units. Drawers and shelves can be added to order, giving you all the storage space you need.
Flat Shelves At Height
At around eye height, thin, flat shelving can be attractive, and it can give you a place to put stuff; a couple of tropical evergreen plants are ideal. If you have a single recess, this is the right place for flat shelving, style depending on the decor, of course. Google Images can show you some great photos of flat shelving in trendy bathrooms and a local carpenter can create anything you have in mind.
Bench Storage
If you have a long bathroom, a bench that doubles as a storage unit is a great way to go, bamboo or hardwood with a soft top might work with your concept. You could use the top for placing beauty products and other stuff you use; measure the width of the room and calculate how much space you have.
If you take the measurements of the bathroom, when you visit your local bathroom store, they have an in-house bathroom designer, who would be happy to help you with storage solutions. Indeed, if you are buying the items, they offer a free design service and what could be better than that? Choose two base colours and start looking at placements, then a design emerges and fixtures and fittings are added.
